In response to this, parents of some of the kids hit met one night over a drink at Ambler to think of what they could do to help keep their neighbourhood safe.
Over winter and spring of 2019 they laid the groundwork for a campaign called 'Safer Driveways' that aims to raise awareness about driveway safety and provide all Pt Chev residents with tips to help keep their neighbourhood safe.
We reckon many of the urban factors in Pt Chev that led to these kids getting hit must exist in suburbs around Auckland, and across the country. We've been talking to Auckland Transport and NZ Transport Agency about treating this campaign as a template that other communities around the country can replicate.
